Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 1½ cups pasta sauce
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 4 packed cups spinach, roughly chopped
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Toppings

  • Basil
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add ½ tablespoon of olive oil and let it heat until hot. Sauté the diced onions for 2-3 minutes until they soften, then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to release their aroma.
  2. Cook the turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Brown the turkey evenly for 6-7 minutes. Season with red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to taste. After cooking, drain any excess grease to keep the dish light.
  3. Add gnocchi and sauce: Incorporate the potato gnocchi, pasta sauce, and chicken broth into the skillet. Stir well to combine all ingredients so that the gnocchi are coated with the sauce. Bring the skillet to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring halfway through to prevent sticking and to soften the gnocchi.
  4. Wilt the spinach: Reduce the heat to low, add the chopped spinach to the skillet, and stir it into the mixture. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the spinach wilts and the gnocchi become tender.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, garnish with fresh basil, Parmesan cheese, and additional red pepper flakes if desired. Serve the skillet hot for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • Drain excess grease after browning the turkey to reduce fat content.
  • You can substitute ground turkey with ground chicken or beef as preferred.
  • Use store-bought or homemade pasta sauce based on your taste.
  • For a vegetarian version, replace ground turkey with crumbled tofu or a plant-based meat substitute and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control the spiciness.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
