Ingredients

Scale

Spinach Filling

  • 1 (10 oz) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Puff Pastry Tree

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Make the spinach filling: In a medium bowl, combine thawed and drained spinach, softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until smooth and well combined.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Prepare the base layer: Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into a large triangle shape. Transfer this triangle onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Spread the filling: Evenly spread the spinach and cheese mixture over the puff pastry triangle, covering the entire surface but keeping edges clear.
  5. Top with second pastry: Roll out the second puff pastry sheet and cut it into the same size triangle as the first. Place this on top of the filling. Trim edges so both layers match perfectly.
  6. Create branches: Using a sharp knife, make horizontal cuts from each side of the triangle toward the center, leaving a solid strip down the middle to form the tree trunk. Twist each strip a few times to resemble branches.
  7. Add garlic butter glaze: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder, then brush this mixture generously over the entire puff pastry to achieve a golden, flavorful crust.
  8. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the puff pastry is risen and golden brown.
  9. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the tree to cool for about 5 minutes. Serve warm by tearing off the twisted branches, perfect for a holiday appetizer or festive snack.

Notes

  • Ensure spinach is well-drained to prevent soggy pastry.
  • Use fresh or well-thawed puff pastry sheets for best results.
  • Feel free to substitute or add other cheeses like feta or cheddar for different flavors.
  • Brush with egg wash instead of butter for a shinier finish, if preferred.
  • Serve with marinara or ranch dip for added flavor contrast.
