Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped (or frozen, thoroughly drained)
  • ½ cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • ¼ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Pastry Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spinach Filling: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute to release its aroma. Stir in the spinach and cook until wilted, or if using frozen spinach, cook until moisture evaporates. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
  2. Mix the Cheese Blend: In a bowl, combine the cooled cooked spinach, crumbled feta, softened cream cheese, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until well blended to form a creamy filling.
  3. Assemble the Twists: Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over one half of the pastry sheet. Fold the other half over the filling to form a rectangle and gently press down to seal the edges.
  4. Cut & Twist: Slice the folded pastry into 1-inch wide strips. Hold each end of a strip and twist gently to create a spiral shape. Place each twist on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, evenly spaced.
  5. Egg Wash & Bake: Brush each pastry twist with beaten egg to give a shiny, golden finish after baking. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Remove and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to thoroughly drain spinach if using frozen to avoid soggy pastry.
  • Use cold puff pastry for best flaky results; thaw it just until pliable.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture retention.
  • These puff pastry twists can be made ahead and baked just before serving.
