Shrimp Patties
- 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Guacamole
- 1 avocado, mashed
- 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
- 1 small jalapeño, minced (optional, for heat)
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
To Serve
- Burger buns (your choice)
- Lettuce and tomato, for serving
- Prepare the Shrimp: In a food processor, add the raw shrimp and pulse until coarsely chopped. Transfer the chopped shrimp into a mixing bowl to prepare for combining with other ingredients.
- Mix Ingredients: To the shrimp in the bowl, add breadcrumbs, chopped cilantro, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, beaten egg, and lime juice. Mix everything thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture sticks together.
- Form Patties: Divide the shrimp mixture into equal portions and shape each into a burger patty approximately 1 inch thick, ensuring they hold their shape for cooking.
- Heat the Grill or Pan: Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with oil to prevent the shrimp patties from sticking during cooking.
- Cook the Patties: Place the shrimp patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and lightly browned on the outside.
- Make the Guacamole: While the patties are cooking, prepare the guacamole by mashing the avocado in a bowl. Stir in finely chopped red onion, minced jalapeño (if using), salt to taste, and lime juice until well combined.
- Assemble the Burgers: Toast the burger buns if desired. Place a cooked shrimp patty on each bun, then generously top it with the freshly made guacamole.
- Add Additional Toppings: Add lettuce and tomato or any other desired toppings to complete your shrimp burger build.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the shrimp burgers immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture. Enjoy your vibrant, healthy shrimp burgers!
Notes
- You can substitute the breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs to make the recipe gluten-free.
- If you prefer a spicier guacamole, add more jalapeño or include some cayenne pepper in the mix.
- For a lower-fat option, consider using egg whites instead of a whole egg.
- Make sure not to over-process the shrimp in the food processor to retain some texture in the patties.
- The patties can be cooked using a grill pan, regular skillet, or outdoor grill depending on availability.
- Leftover guacamole can be stored in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface to prevent browning.
