Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Filling

  • 1 pound plain sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 10-ounce can Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained very well
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • 12 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped (optional)

Crescent Rolls

  • 2 tubes of crescent rolls, cut each triangle up the middle the long way

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the optimal temperature for baking the crescent rolls.
  2. Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked crumbled sausage, softened cream cheese, and thoroughly drained Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies. Add the finely chopped parsley and cilantro if using, then mix everything together until well incorporated.
  3. Cut Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut each triangular crescent piece in half lengthwise, creating two long, skinny triangles per original piece.
  4. Assemble Rolls: Using a small cookie scoop or a heaping teaspoon, place spoonfuls of the sausage mixture at the wider end or base of each crescent roll triangle. Carefully roll the dough up from the base, encasing the filling inside, and shape into crescent shapes.
  5. Bake: Place the rolled crescent rolls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the filling is hot and cooked through.

Notes

  • Ensure the Rotel tomatoes are drained very well to prevent excess moisture from making the crescent rolls soggy.
  • Feel free to add your choice of herbs like parsley and cilantro for added freshness and flavor or omit if preferred.
  • Use a pizza cutter to make cutting the crescent dough easier and cleaner.
  • Serve warm for best taste and texture.
  • You can prepare these rolls ahead of time and refrigerate before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
