Dough Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (4.5 ounces)
- 1 stick unsalted butter (4 ounces)
- 3 large eggs, whisked
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- Vegetable oil for frying
Coating
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 cup white sugar
Nutella Dip
- 1/2 cup melted Nutella, warmed until runny
- Prepare the Nutella and Dough Ingredients: Begin by melting the Nutella until it becomes pourable, then set it aside for serving later. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 stick of unsalted butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
- Form the Dough: Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until the dough forms a smooth ball. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes before adding the whisked eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, to achieve a smooth, slightly sticky dough.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a separate bowl, mix together 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Set this aside for coating the churros after frying.
- Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C), maintaining this temperature to ensure even cooking of the churros.
- Pipe and Fry the Churros: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4-6 inch strips directly into the hot oil, cutting with scissors to release each churro. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Coat and Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. While still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly. Serve immediately with the warmed melted Nutella for dipping.
Notes
- Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F to prevent greasy or undercooked churros.
- Ensure the dough is cool enough before adding eggs to avoid cooking them prematurely.
- Use a large star tip for the classic churro ridges and texture.
- Serve churros warm for the best taste and texture.
- Leftover churros can be reheated in an oven to restore crispiness.
