Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 6 oz / 170 g white chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (or shortening)
  • 3 drops lavender candy oil
  • a few drops purple food coloring (oil-based)

Instructions

  1. Melt Chocolate Chips: You can melt the white chocolate chips either in the microwave or on the stovetop. For the microwave method, place the white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 20-second intervals while stirring between each interval until fully melted. For stovetop melting, bring a small pot of water to a simmer, place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a heatproof bowl, and set it atop the pot ensuring the bowl doesn’t touch the water; stir until melted and then remove from heat.
  2. Add Lavender Oil and Colorant: Once the white chocolate is melted, add 3 drops of lavender candy oil along with a few drops of oil-based purple food coloring to the chocolate mixture.
  3. Mix Well: Gently stir the mixture until the lavender oil and purple color are evenly incorporated and no streaks remain.
  4. Transfer into Pastry Bag: Pour the chocolate mixture into a disposable piping bag and snip a small opening at the tip for piping.
  5. Pipe Chocolate Chips: Line a small cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Pipe small dots onto the prepared sheet mimicking the size and shape of traditional chocolate chips until all the mixture is used.
  6. Freeze Chocolate Chips: Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes or until the chocolate chips have fully solidified.
  7. Release Chocolate Chips: Carefully peel the chocolate chips off the wax or parchment paper using your fingers or by bending the paper to release them. Transfer the solid lavender chocolate chips to an airtight container for storage until ready to use.

Notes

  • Use oil-based food coloring to ensure proper mixing with the chocolate and avoid seizing.
  • If you don’t have lavender candy oil, substitute with culinary lavender extract but use sparingly as it can be potent.
  • Store the chocolate chips in a cool, dry place or keep refrigerated to maintain firmness.
  • These lavender chocolate chips are perfect for decorating cakes, cookies, or adding to homemade trail mix.
  • Be careful not to overheat the chocolate to avoid burning or seizing.
