Sandwich Rolls
- 2 hoagie rolls, sliced lengthwise
Meats & Cheese
- 4–6 slices ham
- 4–6 slices Genoa salami
- 4–6 slices capicola
- 4 slices provolone cheese
Vegetables & Toppings
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
- ½ cup thinly sliced red onion
- 4–6 slices pepperoncini (optional)
Dressing & Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Prepare the Rolls: Open each hoagie roll lengthwise and drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil on each side of the cut rolls. Sprinkle the dried Italian seasoning evenly over both sides for enhanced flavor.
- Layer the Meats and Cheese: Evenly divide the ham, Genoa salami, and capicola slices and layer them evenly inside each hoagie roll. Follow by placing 2 slices of provolone cheese on top of the meats in each sandwich.
- Add the Vegetables: Arrange the thin tomato slices, sliced red onions, and optional pepperoncini slices evenly over the cheese layer. Finally, distribute the shredded iceberg lettuce evenly across the top of the fillings.
- Season and Dress: Drizzle approximately ½ tablespoon of red wine vinegar over the vegetables in each sandwich. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, ensuring the flavors are balanced.
- Close and Serve: Place the top half of the hoagie roll over the sandwich fillings. Gently press down to compact the sandwich slightly. Cut each sandwich in half if desired and serve immediately, or wrap in parchment paper and chill for a deeper melding of flavors.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add more pepperoncini or substitute with spicy pickled peppers.
- Use fresh, crusty hoagie rolls for the best texture and flavor.
- Chilling the sandwich for 30 minutes before serving enhances flavor fusion.
- Substitute provolone with mozzarella or other mild Italian cheeses if preferred.
