A delicious and easy-to-make twist on the classic Sloppy Joe, inspired by the famous Big Mac flavors. This recipe features a savory ground beef mixture with melted cheddar cheese, served on toasted hamburger buns and topped with a tangy special sauce reminiscent of the iconic Big Mac dressing. Perfect for a quick family meal or a casual get-together.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns, toasted

For the Special Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp pickle relish
  • ½ tsp white vinegar
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder

Optional Toppings:

  • Sliced pickles
  • Shredded lettuce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, white vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain excess grease. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper to season the meat.
  3. Add Cheese: Lower the heat to medium-low and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the cooked beef. Stir until the cheese is melted and fully incorporated.
  4. Toast the Buns: If desired, lightly toast the hamburger buns on a baking sheet in a preheated oven or on a skillet until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spread a generous layer of the special sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto each bun and top with sliced pickles. Add shredded lettuce (optional) and the top bun.
  6. Serve: Serve warm with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • You can adjust the seasoning of the beef mixture to taste, adding more garlic powder, salt, or pepper as preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the special sauce.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Leftover sloppy joe mixture can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free hamburger buns.
  • Additional toppings like diced tomatoes or chopped onions can be added for more texture.
