Cheesecake Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup strawberry jam or preserves
- Fresh strawberries, diced (optional)
Wontons & Frying
- 20–24 wonton wrappers
- Water, for sealing the edges
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For Serving
- Whipped cream
- Extra strawberry jam or sauce
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Optionally, fold in a few diced fresh strawberries into the mixture for added texture and flavor or simply place a small dollop of strawberry jam in the center of each wonton later.
- Fill the Wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling into the center. If not mixed in, add a tiny dollop of strawberry jam on top of the filling for a sweet burst.
- Seal the Wontons: Moisten the edges of the wrapper lightly with water. Fold the wrapper over the filling to form a triangle or envelope shape, pressing firmly to seal and remove any air trapped inside to prevent bursting during frying.
- Repeat Filling and Sealing: Continue filling and sealing the remaining wonton wrappers until all the filling is used.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure accurate frying temperature for crispiness without greasiness.
- Fry the Wontons: Fry the wontons in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook about 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to turn and remove them carefully.
- Drain Excess Oil: Transfer fried wontons to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve: Serve the hot wonton bites immediately with whipped cream, extra strawberry jam or sauce for dipping, and fresh strawberry slices on the side for a fresh finish.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing and smooth filling consistency.
- Do not overfill the wontons to prevent leaking during frying.
- Maintain the oil temperature around 350°F for perfect crispness without absorbing too much oil.
- Serve immediately after frying for best texture and flavor.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in an oven or air fryer for crispiness.
