It’s perfect for parties, movie nights, or whenever you crave a crunchy, sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cereal Mix

  • 7 cups Rice Chex Cereal (or store brand equivalent)

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Butterfinger Candy

  • 18 fun size Butterfinger candy bars (15 crushed, 3 roughly chopped for garnish)

Finishing

  • 1¼ cups powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Place the 7 cups of Rice Chex cereal into an extra-large mixing bowl, ensuring there is ample space for coating.
  2. Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, ½ cup creamy peanut butter, and ¼ cup salted butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir thoroughly until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Add Vanilla: Stir in 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.
  4. Combine with Cereal: Pour the chocolate peanut butter mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently stir the cereal to evenly coat every piece with the chocolate mixture without crushing it.
  5. Add Crushed Butterfinger: Mix in the 15 crushed Butterfinger fun size candy bars to distribute the candy pieces throughout the coated cereal.
  6. Coat with Powdered Sugar: Add the coated cereal mixture into a large 2-gallon ziplock bag or use the bowl. Sprinkle with 1¼ cups sifted powdered sugar. Seal the bag tightly and shake gently until the cereal is thoroughly covered with powdered sugar. This method helps contain the sugar and reduces mess.
  7. Dry and Garnish: Spread the powdered sugar-coated cereal onto a baking sheet in a single layer to cool and set for about 10-15 minutes. Just before serving, sprinkle the 3 roughly chopped Butterfinger bars on top for added texture and decoration.

Notes

  • Use a large ziplock bag for mixing in powdered sugar to keep mess minimal and ensure even coating.
  • Allow the Puppy Chow to dry slightly before serving so the powdered sugar doesn’t clump.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days for optimal freshness.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter and ensure candy bars do not contain nuts.
  • Crushing candy bars finely ensures better mixing, but saving some roughly chopped for garnish adds texture and visual appeal.
